Replica: 11 free Claude skills that clone any app into something you can sell
What this project does
Replica is a set of 11 free Claude skills (MIT licensed, no signup, no API key) with one core purpose: help you "clone" any app. It does not mean copying someone's code or logo; instead, in a clean-room style, it reverse-engineers "what this app actually does, how its flows work, how the UI is laid out," then rebuilds a brand-new app you can sell and ship. The whole pipeline covers everything from "recon" to "rebuild" to "find bugs" to "act as product manager": one skill specifically reads what the original app's users complain about, then fixes those pain points directly in your clone. In plain terms, it is an automated factory for indie developers to "copy the homework but not the answer" — you end up with a working, original-code product that solves the same job, without lifting a single line of someone else's source.
Why it blew up recently
The project went open source on October 3, 2026 and hit 380+ stars in two days. It blew up by precisely hitting the "indie hacker wants to copy fast and ship fast" sweet spot. Everyone wants to build a Micro SaaS now, but the real grind is the dirty, tedious work: requirement breakdown, tech selection, design system, wiring payments, writing the landing page. Replica compresses that long chain into 11 /commands, and by emphasizing "rebuild only the functional flow, never touch others' assets," it both avoids legal landmines and sells a hallucinatory sense of efficiency — "tomorrow you could have a sellable clone." Naturally it spread like wildfire in Claude Code communities and Indie Hackers circles, where the pitch "clone any app, keep the features, drop the liabilities" lands perfectly.
Technical highlights
The 11 skills each own one stage, and chained together they ARE a tiny startup:
- /replica-recon: Reverse recon. From public pages, screenshots, store listings, and your own account, it digs out the target app's screens, flows, components, and data model.
- /replica-architect: Plans the tech stack and database schema, so you stop agonizing over which framework to use.
- Rebuild design system / wire auth and payments / score and compare: A group of skills repaints the design language, connects login and checkout, then scores your clone against the original item by item to find gaps.
- /replica-entrepreneur: The most interesting one — it reads the original app's bad reviews and complaints, turns them into "the N things users hate most," then fixes them in your version, acting as a built-in product manager.
- Naming, branding, landing page, store copy, ship: Other skills help you name it, brand it, write the landing page and store description, then push it live on your domain.
A concrete run looks like this: you point /replica-recon at a popular todo app, it returns screens, flows, and a data model; /replica-architect suggests a Next.js plus Postgres stack; /replica-entrepreneur scrapes app-store reviews for "sync is buggy" and "no dark mode," then your rebuild ships both fixes. The scoring step even prints a side-by-side table so you can see exactly where your clone still lags. All tools only need Python 3.8+, with nothing to pip install. Install is dead simple: paste the repo URL into Claude with install skill, or git clone and copy the replica-* folders into ~/.claude/skills/. And it enforces "rebuild function, not ownership," mechanically preventing you from lifting someone's logo, copy, or content.
Who it is for
It is built for Claude Code users, indie developers, and anyone who wants to build a Micro SaaS without writing a requirements doc from scratch. If you like a product but think "it could be so much better here and there," Replica helps you spin up a fixed version in three days to validate the idea; if you are doing competitive analysis and want a quick prototype demo, it also saves massive repetitive labor. It is equally handy for founders who can describe a product they admire but freeze at the blank Next.js screen — the skills turn that admiration into a scaffolded, running project.
Quick try
Inside Claude, paste:
https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/replica-skill then a new line install skill
Or:
git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/replica-skill.git && cp -r replica-skill/replica-* ~/.claude/skills/
Needs Python 3.8 or above, no other dependencies.
Compared with competitors
- vs hand cloning: Doing requirements, prototype, payments by yourself takes at least two weeks; Replica compresses it into a few commands and gives you a skeleton in half a day.
- vs generic scaffolds (Laravel / Next.js templates): A scaffold gives you an empty shell; Replica gives you "functional flows grown from a real app," a much higher starting point.
- vs lifting source code: Lifting source has legal and ethical risk; Replica goes clean-room, learning "what to do" not "how to write," safer.
One caveat: what it produces is a "functionally equivalent" clone, not a legal immunity badge. The skill's own guardrails block copying copy, text, and logos, and you still must write original code and confirm you do not step on trademark and content copyright red lines before shipping.
